Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes Fellowship Program

The mission of Pediatric Endocrine Fellowship Program at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore Einstein (CHAM) is to train outstanding pediatric endocrinologists with a strong foundation in the clinical, academic, and research components of pediatric endocrinology. This aligns with the mission statement of our Sponsoring Institution which is “To heal, to teach, to discover and to advance the health of the communities we serve.” The Division of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes at the Children's Hospital at Montefiore Einstein serves the immediate Bronx community, as well as the surrounding Tri-State area.

Why our program could be right for you

Our program exposes trainees to patients with a vast range of endocrine disorders, including Type 1 and  Type 2 diabetes, growth and puberty disorders, thyroid dysfunction, metabolic bone issues, congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH), multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN) and Turner syndrome. We have a unique Fellows’ Continuity Clinic that allows fellows to follow their own patients over time and offers hands-on experience needed to be a successful endocrinologist. Additionally, our multidisciplinary staff––composed of certified diabetes educators, dieticians, a social worker and a psychologist––contributes to the education of fellows by using up-to-date technology and a big-picture approach to diabetes treatment.

Children's Hospital at Montefiore Einstein

Located on our Moses campus, the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore Einstein (CHAM) is a premier academic children’s hospital nationally renowned for its clinical excellence, innovative research and commitment to training the next generation of pediatricians and pediatric subspecialists.

I wanted to see a wide breadth of endocrinology at an excellent children’s hospital during my fellowship. What I got is so much more! Never have I felt more supported in my clinical training or had as much opportunity for a well-rounded experience.

A challenging and innovative curriculum

Fellows spend their first program year immersed in clinical exposure in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. The final two years of the fellowship are devoted to research. Trainees devise, implement and write their own original research projects while still participating in evenly distributed on-call duties. Throughout the three-year program, fellows build their clinical knowledge in twice-weekly sessions in our Fellows’ Continuity Clinic where they follow their own patients, as well as in specialty clinics including calcium and bone, thyroid nodule, differences in sexual development, and cancer survivorship.

Twice-weekly didactics serve as a forum for fellows, division members and guest speakers to discuss endocrine dilemmas and share the latest recommendations and literature. Additionally, over the course of our three-year program, fellows attend the Fellows Research Course, where they learn about research study design, quality improvement and manuscript preparation, among other topics.
